Complete England's Newest National Trail, Then Unwind at Middlethorpe Hall & Spa
Officially recognised as England's newest National Trail in 2026, Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Path is one of Britain's greatest long-distance walks. Spanning approximately 190 miles from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea, the route crosses three of England's most spectacular National Parks; the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, before reaching the Yorkshire coast.
Over 12 to 16 days, walkers experience an ever-changing landscape of mountain passes, tranquil lakes, limestone dales, heather-covered moorland, ancient woodland, waterfalls, historic villages and dramatic coastal cliffs. Along the way you'll discover traditional market towns, centuries-old inns, medieval castles, abbey ruins and some of Yorkshire's finest scenery, making it one of the world's most celebrated walking holidays.
The trail passes across the Vale of York, with its closest section approximately 20 miles north-west of Middlethorpe Hall, making the hotel an ideal final stop after completing your adventure. From here, York is just minutes away, offering the perfect transition from the tranquility of the countryside to one of England's most historic cities.
After days on the trail, there is nowhere better to recover than Middlethorpe Hall. Soothe tired legs with a restorative massage in our spa, relax in the indoor pool, steam room or sauna, stroll through 20 acres of beautifully maintained gardens, and enjoy exceptional dining before returning home refreshed.
Whether you're celebrating the achievement of walking coast to coast or preparing for your onward journey, Middlethorpe Hall provides a restorative and memorable conclusion to an extraordinary experience.
