The Treasurer's House

Set in the tranquil shade of York's magnificent Minster, this elegant 17th and 18th-century town house has much earlier origins and boasts links as far back as the Romans. It contains a medieval-style hall with half-timbered gallery and fine Georgian features, including exquisite decorated plasterwork, panelling and elaborate fireplaces.

The house was rescued from neglect by the wealthy local industrialist Frank Green, who carefully restored it and made it his home. It remains as he left it in 1930, with a series of "period" rooms, created as a setting for his collections of antique furniture, china, pottery and glass. The house also has the dubious distinction of being home to the oldest ghost in England!
